In memory of Chris Gerrard
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and untimely passing of Chris Gerrard.
Chris was responsible for the Remittance Prices Worldwide project at our vendor, Developing Markets Associates (DMA). The RPW team had been working with Chris since the very early days back in 2007 and had always appreciated his sincere and profound dedication to the cause.
After obtaining his degree in English literature and History at Goldsmiths University in London, Chris then gained a City and Guilds in Journalism and Desk Top Publishing.
He began his career as a Teacher of English as a Foreign Language for several organizations in a range of countries including, most notably, the Czech Republic. After returning to London he used his qualifications to become a sub-editor and designer in the publishing world. From these roles he transitioned into a project manager and creative director and it was here, in 2005, that he gained his first experience of remittances by working on the DFID funded project: SendMoneyHome.org.
He joined DMA as a founding team member on its very first day in February 2007 and continued to work for the company in its different guises for the rest of his career. Chris undertook a broad range of tasks, including leading a range of research activities, managing websites and all brand activities. In addition to leading the practical implementation of RPW, Chris managed all the publishing within DMA. He produced multiple books for investment events that the organization runs for developing country governments.
He approached his work, however important, with a phenomenal eye for detail, tremendous patience and kindness, good humor, and a determination to get the job done.
Chris will be very sorely missed by all who knew him.
